Hello there!

There's so many exciting things going on right now in my little corner of the quilty universe!

April 26, 2023

My NEW modern quilt pattern Coquina Dream is releasing at the end of May ~ just in time for summer! I'm so excited to share it with you! This beach-inspired design is a fun, fast make that offers three different sizes ~ baby, throw, and twin.

Why Coquina Dream?

The Coquina Dream quilt celebrates warm summer breezes, salty ocean air, and sand between your toes! As many of you know, I'm a Florida girl ~ born and raised! I grew up near the beautiful white sand beaches of Anna Maria Island on the Gulf of Mexico. Coquina Beach is one of my favorite spots on the island! It's named for the numerous pink, purple and yellow coquina shells that are found there and, when you open them up, they look like little angel wings laying there on the sand. These beautiful little shells were a huge part of my inspiration and design of this pattern. I have so many memories of this tranquil island ~ fun times with family, stunning sunsets, yummy ice cream, shells galore, collecting sand dollars, and swimming with manatees! I go back home at least once a year to visit my family, and we always make time to spend a day on Anna Maria Island. Coquina Beach is like a beautiful little dream!

I can't wait to release this pattern and see YOUR own dreamy version of Coquina Dream come to life! 🖤

I'm so excited to have finally released my new Outside the Blocks quilt pattern into the world! It's been such a fun and challenging journey and I've learned so much along the way.

When I first signed up for the Quilter's Candy Quilt Pattern Writing Course in September, I had no idea that I'd be releasing a pattern so soon. I have always dreamed of designing quilt patterns that I could release on a professional level (not just the scribbles and random measurements I've always jotted down everywhere for patterns I've "written" for myself). But as my pattern for the course started taking shape, I began to get even more excited with each new step of the process and realized that YES this was really happening and I could make my dream a reality. I simply couldn't wait to finish my pattern and bring it to life!

The fabric pull is always the fun part, right?!? I love black & white (as you already know!) so of course I knew I would be incorporating those into the fabric selection. I also knew I only wanted to use Art Gallery Fabrics because they are so soft and dreamy to work with. I have had a bolt of one of my favorite AGF prints sitting in my cabinet for quite a while now, just waiting for the perfect project to come along. So as soon as my pattern design was complete, I knew right away that was the print I wanted to use! I rounded out the rest of the pull with beautiful shades of green from the AGF Pure Solids line to tie it all together. I absolutely love how the fabrics/colors pop in the cover quilt! I've had so much positive feedback about the cover quilt fabrics, and many have asked for a list of the fabrics I used so I'll share them again below for everyone!

There were definitely highs and lows throughout this well as a lot of learning, makers supporting makers, laughs with new friends, and maybe even a few tears courtesy of learning curves in Adobe Illustrator, haha. But at the end of the day, I wouldn't change a thing! I have so many people to thank that helped me along the way and made this whole crazy adventure become a reality! Thank you ALL! And thank you for making my pattern release so fun and successful!

Y'all, I had such an incredible group of pattern testers! I love the unique versions of the Outside the Blocks pattern that these ladies created and I'm so appreciative of all the time and effort they put into helping me make my debut pattern release such a great one! I have enjoyed getting to know each one of these talented testers, and I've introduced them before on my IG (@sewthurstyquiltco), but they deserve a permanent spot on my blog!
